... Well acualy I didnt break it, it broke itself.

I used the camera at the Bulldog Rally. The first stage in Dyfnant it worked ok. I borrowed Charlie's Sigma lens, then it ocationaly showed error 99. It was raining but it didnt get anywhere near as wet as an avarage day up Sweet Lamb as I was trying to shelter it with my coat.
The next stage in Dyfi the weather was good. I shot two cars ok then after that all my pictures where coning up black. The camera sounded like it was taking the pictures and the camera seemed to function ok, all that was wrong was the pictures just being plain black.
Two helpful guys tried helping me out there. They lent me another lens to try, it wasnt that. They lent me a new card, it wasnt that. I changed the batteries just incase there wasnt enough power or somthing, it wasnt that. I hit it a few times with a rock to see if it would free somthing up inside, that didnt help either. So then I was left to spectate.
Does anything know whats wrong with it? Any tips or help much apreciated. And thanks to the two anonymous people that helped me in Dyfi.

The sensor may have failed... try doing a google search with the serial number of the camera, this happened on my dad's Fuji S2 a few years ago and it was in a range of a faulty batch so was replaced FOC. Worth a look for press releases etc from canon to see if there are any common issues.

Good luck!

Cheers Jamie, il have a browse for extended warrenty or somthing.

From experience the word 'sensor' is an expensive repair.

Mullens,

Had the same problem with mine a while back.
Top and bottom of it, it's a write off.

The dampness has caused corrosion inside the body (on the sensor if i remember correctly)(exactly what happened to mine)

I had mine sent off and they said it's not economical to repair it, therefore easier to just scrap the camera and if your insured, get a pay out for a new body....

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Ah well. Start saving for a new camera I guess. How much for your 30 Geoff?

my Dad's 450D has just come back from 'repair' in a worse state than when it went away - 9 months old and they reckon its beyond economic repair - so for now I think he's using my 30d! And Zoe has fallen in love with the 40D so looks like I might be cameraless!
